The New Madrid Fault is very unstable in the Mid-U.S. That one has the potential of dividing the U.S. into two parts with a great water gulf between the two.
These are not “far in the future” concerns; these are so real that the U.S. government is now tracking them closely with surveillance planes flying over these regions with technology that shows them the magma moving, earthquake potential, volcano potential, and registers them. Over 400,000 tremors have been recorded from the Ridgecrest/China Lake area since the big “hit” causing great earthquakes on July 4th and 5th. As reported, the “hit” was made by Russia deep into the ground, shutting down America’s top underground Naval Base permanently, in retaliation for the US bombing an underwater submarine of Russia’s off the coast of Alaska in June, killing 14 Russian sailors. Their “hit” released magma from a dormant volcano. There are 169 volcanoes in the U.S. – maybe more.
