New Moon, New Month Report for Av

Shalom! Happy Rosh Chodesh!

Jeremiah 6:16: “Thus says Yahuwah, `Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it, and find rest for yourselves…”

TONIGHT, JULY 22nd, at sunset officially begins Av 1 on the Creator’s calendar. Today is the 30th day of Tammuz. The Creators’ months are calculated by the sighting (with naked eyes) of the new moon from Jerusalem, or just around it, like Toqowa, by two or more witnesses. Going by moon cycles, we can only have a 29-day or a 30-day month. Last night began the 30th day of Tammuz.

Doing things the ancient way, prepares us for the Kingdom of Yahuwah on earth. It is also fun being a part of the ways of Bible culture. The Muslims also go by the sighting of the new moon to determine their months. However, Muslims are on a strictly lunar calendar without regarding the sun’s timing because they are not an agricultural society. They are a herding and gathering culture. This is why it is important to determine Aviv 1, the head of the festival year in the spring, by the stage of the barley’s growth. Israel was, and still is to some extent, an agricultural society, as well as herding sheep and goats as they always did.

The new moon was up there last night, but hiding. It has to be seen by two or more witnesses with the naked eye – not through technology amplifying it, or hand-held binoculars. Four people reported to Devorah Gordan last night that they saw it through binoculars. However, none of the people saw it over Jerusalem.

Again, to go by the ancient ways, the sighting must be from Jerusalem or just around it, like Toqowa, 4 miles away. None of the people reporting to Devorah last night were anywhere near Jerusalem.

I agree with my son, Derek (thewelltroddenroad.org) on this. He e-mailed me  this morning: “Based upon this report, I wouldn’t call last night the new moon. Using binoculars doesn’t cut it for me. I believe today at sunset will be the new moon.”

Can’t you just see Abraham, Isaac, or Jacob, running out of their tents with their binoculars trying to find the new moon? (smile)

Blessings, Yedidah
